Seasons of Film.

I finally finished the roll of film in my camera. I have been so crazy busy that I haven't used my film camera a lot lately. I actually couldn't even remember what I had used the first part of the roll for!

Once I got the scans back and uploaded I finally got a peek at what was on that roll of film. The first half was filled with photo's from our trip to the beach way back in JULY - over two months ago! Talk about finding hidden treasures!!



I just love the richness in colour that film can have.




This next picture makes me laugh so hard. I asked Scott to try taking a photo of me - so, he backs away and then holds the camera to his face and quickly snaps the shutter. I noticed his hand didn't really move the manual focus on the camera -'Did you focus it?' His reply - 'What?! I didn't know I had to focus it - how do you do that?!' So finally seeing the outcome makes me smile....



After a quick manual focus lesson, his second attempt turned out awesome.





The second half of the roll I used the other day when I went out to take some Fall photo's.







My love affair with film continues...

For the love of film.

I think that I have found my new photography love. Film. I just love everything about it - but mainly, the feeling film images have. It moves something in my soul. And makes me so very happy. Inspires me. Reminds me why I feel in love with photography in the first place.

When I finally took my film in to get developed, there were a couple other gems waiting among the treasure of those couple rolls.

Last Week....

...was a tough week for me.

I was tired, exhausted, overwhelmed, uninspired and very unmotivated - and for no particular reason. It was just one of those weeks where you are in a funk and all you want to do is curl into a ball on the couch and not move. Or do anything. At all.

And then, on Friday, it hit me. I was just using all that as a excuse. An excuse to be lazy. I was really just wallowing in my own self pity. And that's just not cool. Everyone's entitled to a bad day now and then - but to let it develop into a whole wasted bad week? That's my fault.

I needed to do something to shake me out of that funk I was in and jump start my motivation. And I resorted to the only way I know how - photography. I shook it up even more though and took my film camera out on a 10 minute walk and actually took it in to get developed right away. I am kind of in love with the results.

Yes, there are some big duds.



But some of them?

Pure, inspiring, de-funking, gold :)








I am beyond shocked that my attempt at a self portrait actually turned out!

And one photo from a roll I took in Phoenix. Of my favourite flower there :)


This week will be better. I've decided :)

Film.

I remember my mom's special camera. Her good camera. The one that only came out for certain special occasions.

I remember being entranced by it. Sneaking into her room to look at it and sometimes even take pictures with it. Which, clearly, she would always find out about. There was - literally - photo evidence.



My first photo shoot was with this camera. I was probably 10 or 11 and I made my brothers pose in our backyard - by the tree, on the swing set, by the fence. I remember thinking there wasn't actually film in the camera so we were just playing around. Oh, but there was film. We still have those photo's.

This camera was my mom's first big purchase after graduating University. She wanted a nice camera. Something I didn't realize we had in common. So this camera, now considered 'vintage' I'm sure, has been in our family for a long time.



I asked her to bring it out when she came to visit. Film photography has been something I've wanted to try out for a while now. And I just happened to know someone with a nice film camera ;)

To be honest, film photography scares the crap out of me. Not being able to check the lcd display to see if you got a good shot. Only having one chance. But, it makes you really evaluate the photo you are wanting to take. To put more thought in before you click the shutter.

I don't know if anything good will come of this adventure with film. I'll just have to wait and see what develops ;)
