My mom flew down to visit us for a little holiday in the sun - and I knew this was my chance to jam in all the sight seeing touristy things Scott was that not interested in doing with me! Yay for mom's who let you plan out their entire visit!!
On my list of 'must do' in Arizona for a some time has been to go explore Apache Junction. And that's what we did. We started out the day at The Lost Dutchman State Park for a nice, slightly breezy, hike on Superstition Mountain.
Definitely some amazing views...
Crazy how green it was out there!
Then we went to Goldfield Ghost Town to walk around. I loved all the old buildings and details they managed to preserve - everywhere there were old trunks, signs, bottles, benches.
And then, because we are ambitious and wanted to explore as much as possible, we drove the beautiful and windy Apache Trail Highway to Canyon Lake where we took a cruise on a steamboat!
This is Elephant Rock! Can you see the elephant shape?? It is a side view of the whole elephant - the trunk is the left column and then it's legs are the two on the right. You have to use your imagination a bit!
These little ducks chased the steamboat the whole way - flying to catch up and then swimming alongside in hopes of an overboard popcorn!
Such a fun day I was able to share with my mom.
